In a manufactured home, usually yes. The supply trunk runs through the belly, under the floor, and the only thing protecting it is the underbelly wrap. Once that wrap tears or sags, ground moisture and sandy soil get up against the duct, and you start smelling it every time the blower kicks on. Cleaning the ducts removes what's built up inside, but we'll also check whether the underbelly is open and whether the crossover duct is still sealed. Otherwise the smell comes right back.

Most of those homes were built from the 1970s through the 1990s with flex runs in a shallow attic, and in a lot of them the flex sits right against hot roof sheathing. That bakes the outer jacket and can make the inner liner brittle or collapse at bends. We clean the runs, then tell you plainly if any section is kinked, crushed under stored items, or past the point where cleaning helps.
